The People's Organization For Progress (POP) will participate in protests against racial injustice in New York and Washington DC on Thursday, August 28th.

POP Members will participate in the March On Wall Street sponsored by the National Action Network. The march begins 10:00am at the African Burial Ground, 290 Broadway in New York.
Other members will travel to the nation's capital for two events there. The first is the "Day of Prayer for Washington DC" which begins 12 noon at the Metropolitan AME Church 1518 M Street NW in Washington DC.
They will also participate in the "Solidarity Season: Labor Day 2025 Rally & March starting 4:00pm at DuPont Circle, 1610 Connecticut Avenue NW in Washington DC. It is sponsored by labor unions am including the Metropolitan Washington Council AFL-CIO, and advocacy groups such as FREE DC.
"We are going to the March On Wall Street in New York, to protest against oligarchy, fascism and racism, and to demand economic justice, reparations for African Americans, and the restoration and preservation of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs," Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People's Organization For Progress stated.
"We are going to Washington for the prayer service and the labor rally to stand in solidarity with the people there who are under military occupation, and are struggling against the Trump regime," Hamm said.
"We demand justice and self-determination for the people of Washington. We demand an end to the military occupation, the removal of all troops, the full restoration of home rule, and statehood for the District of Columbia," he said.
Hamm went on to say that August 28th was an appropriate day for protest because it is the anniversary of the 1963 March On Washington For Jobs And Freedom, where Martin Luther King gave his famous "I Have A Dream" speech.
It is also the anniversary of the murder of Emmett Till, a 14 year-old African American child who was abducted and lynched by white men in Drew, Mississippi in 1955. His murder was one of the precipitating events of the Civil Rights Movement.
POP members will be going to the Wall Street march in New York by bus, car, and public transportation. They will be on a bus sponsored by a Newark chapter of the National Action Network. It will be leaving 8:30am from 400 Hawthorne Avenue in Newark.
Those members going to Washington will depart 7:00am and are traveling by car. For more information call the People’s Organization For Progress (POP) at (973)801-0001.
